Verified
by Visa - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Verified by Visa?
A: Verified by Visa is a convenient new service
that protects Air Force Federal Credit Union VISA cards
by allowing cardholders to add a personal password to
their card - at no cost - for added security while shopping
online.
Q:
Why should I register for Verified by Visa?
A: A Verified by Visa password helps ensure that
only you can use your Visa card to make purchases online.
Even though Air Force Federal Credit Union already protects
your card against unauthorized use, Verified by Visa
provides an extra level of protection for online shopping.
If a card number is ever compromised, for whatever reason,
Verified by Visa helps prevent unauthorized use online
before it can even happen.
Q:
How much does Verified by Visa cost?
A: There is no cost to register your Air Force
Federal Credit Union VISA card with Verified by Visa
and the process takes only a few minutes.
Q:
Am I required to register my Air Force Federal Credit
Union VISA card through Verified by Visa?
A: No. You are not required to register your
Visa cards in the Verified by Visa program. However,
if you do not register your cards in the Verified by
Visa program you may not be permitted to use your cards
at online stores that participate in the Verified by
Visa program. Participating online stores may prompt
you at your order to either (1) immediately register
your card in the Verified by Visa program or (2) pay
for your order by selecting another payment method.
Q:
How do I register for Verified by Visa?
A: There are two ways to register your Air Force
Federal Credit Union VISA card:
1.
Register any time at www.visa.com/verified.
You'll be asked to enter your card number and provide
the requested identifying information. A quick identity
verification will take place. You will then be asked
to create a personal password.
2.
Register at the time of purchase. When initiating a
purchase online with a participating merchant, a Verified
by Visa window will appear. You will be asked to enter
your card details and provide identifying information.
A quick identity verification takes place and you will
then be asked to create a personal password. Once the
process is complete, you are returned to the merchant
site to finish your sale.
Whichever
option you choose, the level of protection remains the
same.
Q:
Verified by Visa asked for the "Signature Panel
Code" from the back of my card. What is this code?
A: This code is called the Card Verification
Value 2 (CVV2) - a three-digit security code that is
printed after your card number in the signature line
on the BACK of your Visa card. Since an actual Visa
card is not presented when making purchases online,
asking for the CVV2 allows merchants to validate the
card you are using and helps reduce the potential for
fraud.
Q:
How do I use Verified by Visa?
A: It's easy and safe to shop online with Verified
by Visa. Simply shop at online stores that participate
in the Verified by Visa program. When you're ready to
buy, enter your Visa number as always and submit your
order. A Verified by Visa window will appear. Submit
your personal password. Once your identity is confirmed,
you will be returned to the merchant and your purchase
is completed.
Q:
Will I need to apply for a new Visa card to use Verified
by Visa?
A: No. Verified by Visa is designed to protect
the Visa card(s) that you already have.
Q:
Can I choose my own Verified by Visa password?
A: Yes. Your Verified by Visa password must be
6 to 10 characters in length and must include at least
one letter and at least one number.
Q:
Can I change my Verified by Visa password?
A: Yes. To change the Verified by Visa password
on your Air Force Federal Credit Union VISA card visit
www.visa.com/verified
and re-register your card.
Q:
What if I forget my password?
A: If you forget your Air Force Federal Credit
Union VISA card password, click "Forgot your password"
and follow the instructions.
Q:
When I enter my Visa card number on the Verified
by Visa web site, how does Visa protect my personal
information?
A: Visa takes extensive precautions to safeguard
and secure your personal and financial information.
Personal and payment card information is transmitted
using a high level of encryption, and is stored on Visa's
secure server behind a firewall to protect against unauthorized
access.
Q:
Will I have to provide my Verified by Visa password
when I use my Visa card at stores and restaurants?
A: No. The Verified by Visa password is only
necessary when conducting transactions online at participating
merchants.
Q:
I share the same Visa credit card number with other
family members. Will Verified by Visa work for all of
us?
A: Yes. All family members on your Visa credit
card account will need to register their cards and create
their own personal Verified by Visa passwords so that
they can shop at participating online stores.
Q:
Which browsers will work with Verified by Visa?
A: Verified by Visa works on the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 5.x and up, Netscape 6.2 and up, and
AOL 7 and 8.
Q:
Are all online stores participating in the Verified
by Visa program?
A: No. Some merchants that participate in the
Verified by Visa program include: Blockbuster, Bed Bath
& Beyond, CompUSA, Dell, eToys.com, Niketown, Nordstrom,
Northwest Airlines, Priceline.com, Petco.com, Walgreens,
Walmart.com and 1-800-Flowers.com. All participating
merchants are listed at Verified by Visa's site at www.visa.com/verified.
Q:
If my Visa cards are registered with Verified by Visa,
will I be able to use them at online stores that do
not participate in the Verified by Visa program?
A: Yes. If you choose to use a card registered
in the Verified by Visa program at an online merchant
that does not participate in the program, your online
sale will be processed as before, without requiring
entry of your Verified by Visa password.
Q:
Can I register my Air Force Federal Credit Union VISA
debit card through Verified by Visa?
A: No. Not at this time.
Q:
Can I register all my cards through Verified by
Visa?
A: For your safety, we recommend you shop online
only with cards like the Air Force Federal Credit Union
VISA card that offer the added protection of Verified
by Visa. You may register any Visa card you use for
online shopping through Verified by Visa as long as
the issuing financial institution participates in the
Verified by Visa program. MasterCard offers its own
online security program, MasterCard SecureCode, for
MasterCard cards.
Q: Upon
registration, I entered my information and password
but got an "Authentication Failed" message.
What does this mean?
A: This means that Verified by Visa was unable
to verify your identity.
Q:
I tried my password but was unable to complete my
purchase. What happened?
A: If you made repeated attempts (more than three)
to enter your password or personal data during one sale,
you will be prevented from using your Visa card at participating
online stores. You will, however, still be able to use
your Visa card elsewhere.
Q:
I used my Verified by Visa password and completed the
transaction, but my card was still declined. Why?
A: While your identity was verified, the transaction
still needs to be authorized based on your available
balance. For assistance call 210.673.5610 or 1.800.227.5328.
