Phishing Alert from Air Force FCU
November 5, 2007
Recently, there have been several attempted "Phishing” scams, requesting Air Force FCU members for their information. These false emails asked for the recipient to click on a link or fax in their information to update their account registration. If the recipient proceeded to click on the link, it directed them to a false website and asked for their credit union member’s account number and PIN.
Air Force FCU was alerted of another scam over the weekend and we want to let members know that this is not an Air Force FCU website and you should not fax your personal information to unknown fax numbers, or enter in your information to false websites. You should be aware about these fraudulent schemes and know that they have a habit of reappearing in a same or similar fashion.
One of our top priorities at Air Force Federal Credit Union is to keep information about your accounts private and secure.
Air Force Federal Credit Union will never ask you to provide account numbers, passwords, Social Security Numbers or other private or personal information about you through e-mail or by fax.
If you receive a request for this information, you should delete it immediately. Please read our Security Policy and review our security alerts to find out more.
Remember to protect yourself:
- Never access an organization’s Web site from a link provided in an e-mail, but only by typing in the actual URL.
- If you suspect an e-mail may be phishing, contact the organization’s customer support center immediately.
- Be very skeptical of “urgent” messages that require you to enter confidential information.
- Keep your Internet browser software up to date and use an anti-virus and anti-spam product.
- Check your online account balances and transactions regularly for any discrepancies.
