| Air
Force Federal Credit Union is committed to providing
competitive and fair mortgage services that enable our
members to realize the dream of homeownership. Because
of the highly confidential nature of our business,
we go to great lengths to ensure the privacy of our
members personal
information throughout the mortgage process. Your
trust is important to us.
Then why are you receiving all of those annoying mortgage-related solicitations in your mailbox and over the telephone?
Because
your name, address, mortgage amount and lender are a
matter of public record. When you purchase a new home,
the deed - which contains your personal information -
is recorded at the local county recorders office
for tax assessment purposes. This is standard practice,
no matter which mortgage lender you use. In many areas,
information about the purchase of your new home is also
listed in local newspapers responsible for posting public
notification of recorded documents.
As a result, mortgage
lenders, mortgage insurance companies and various others
that are not affiliated with Air Force Federal Credit
Union, can access this information to solicit new business
from homeowners. The three most common types of solicitations
are offers for refinancing your existing mortgage loan,
insurance for your loan or a bi-weekly payment service.
The solicitations may look as though they are either
coming from the credit union or at the very least, with
the credit unions authorization. Thats
what makes these solicitations so disturbing.
Rest assured that your credit union is not providing any of these solicitors with your personal information.
