Check Your Credit - Now
It's Free
The Fair Credit Reporting Act,
also known as the "FACT Act", now requires
each of the nationwide consumer reporting agencies -
Equifax, Experian and TransUnion - to provide you with
a free copy of your credit report, at your request,
once every 12 months.
The intent of the FACT Act is to
ensure consumers know what's in their report, which
is used by most lenders for loan decisions. It's also
used by many employers for hiring decisions too. Access
to your report can also help you identify any errors
or indications of potential identity theft.
You can order your free annual
credit report:
- Online at AnnualCreditReport.com
- the only site authorized by the three reporting
agencies to provide a free annual credit report
- By calling the Annual Credit
Report request service at 1-877-322-8228
To dispute or correct information
in your report - or to find out about additional services*,
such as getting your credit score or credit monitoring
services, contact:
You may also get access to your
credit score*, which lenders use to make loan decisions,
as reported by all three agencies in one report from
myFICO at www.myfico.com.
There are many companies and websites
out there now offering credit reports, credit scores
and credit monitoring services.
But we recommend working with the
agencies named above. That's what the other companies
are doing - and they simply add on their costs to do
it for you.
Most importantly, watch out for
any company promising to "fix your credit"
or offering you "credit repair."
If whatever is listed in your credit
report is accurate and true, it cannot be changed -
by you or anyone else.
